Tasting Notes:
Nose: Very fruit forward! With ripe red berries, slight forest floor, but overriding ripe red fruits.
In the mouth very fruity with cherry and strawberry shining through, a very pleasant wine soft and pleasant a nice medium body with soft acidity. Tannin was not apparent, which is characteristic of the Gamay grape. Overall, a great example of a Beaujolais.
Food and wine pairing:
Beaujolais is a wine that is enjoyed with any course of the meal, or by itself when you want a glass of red. They go well with French classics—pâtés, terrines, rillettes, saucisson sec—and with the cheese course, from white cheeses such as Brie and Camembert to more flavourful and pungent cheeses.
The Wine:
Beaujolais tends to be a very light red wine, with relatively high amounts of acidity. In some vintages, Beaujolais produces more wine than the Burgundy wine regions of Chablis, Côte d'Or, Côte Chalonnaise and Mâconnais put together.
The wine takes its name from the historical Province of Beaujolais, a wine-producing region. It is located north of Lyon, and covers parts of the north of the department of Rhone, the Rhone Alps region and southern areas of the department of Saône-et-Loire, in Burgundy. While administratively considered part of the Burgundy wine region, the climate is closer to that of the Rhône, and the wine is sufficiently individual in character to be considered apart from Burgundy and Rhône. The region is known internationally for its long tradition of winemaking, for the use of carbonic maceration, and more recently for the popular Beaujolais nouveau.
